Days of Summer

Yet another Starkid song! This makes three.

Definitely putting some of these lyrics somewhere on my quilt.

Water

I'm a fan of taking close-ups of water. I really like the lines and ripples that the water and light makes. I was able to experiment with this over the summer when I went to Yellowstone.

Maybe I'll write something about water on one of my pieces or try to recreate the lines.

(All pictures were taken by me)

Phantom!

I absolutely LOVE The Phantom of the Opera. I love almost every adaption. I love the story, I love the characters, I love everything.

And I absolutely love the costuming.

These costumes are some of my absolute favorite. It would be super cool if I could somehow dye a piece to look like one of these costumes!

Final Project Idea

I think I want to try and make a quilt. This past year has been insane, and it would be really super cool to have something that represents everything I've been through, good and bad.

Star Wars Concept

I got a idea for a piece I want to do, so I (poorly) sketched it all out.

First, I'll do a free float dye in blue:

Then I'll flag fold overdye in a darker blue/indigo:

I'll bleach lines onto it and put some gold/silver dots on:

Lastly, I'll add a quote from me and my friends:

The quote comes from one of the last times we all hung out before the two left to serve LDS missions, so I'd love to be able to incorporate something silly from my friends.

What A Coincidence

This picture was in my phone's color folder:

And then I realized something.

Looks like I don't have to worry about trying to get that color anymore!

(Picture taken from Disney Parks official Twitter page)

Red

I really want to make a deep red colored piece.

My grandma recently passed away, and her favorite color was red. It seemed like most of what she owned was red. I want to make a piece that has a beautiful, deep, true red color in order to honor her.

I don't really have a picture of what color red I want, but I feel like I'll know what it is I want when I see it.

Everything Ends

Another Starkid song! Yay! This song is about love, loss, and how "things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end," as Luna Lovegood would say.

Status Quo

This song here is my life motto. It's kind of like "hakuna matata," only a million times better.

This song means a lot to me and I really want to incorporate the lyrics onto my final project somehow.

Uh Oh

It looks like I've been hitting "save" on my posts instead of "publish".

I'll try to get this sorted out tonight. This post will be the test to see if I've really been messing up that bad.

UPDATE: Yep! Looks like I've just been hitting "save" instead of "publish." I guess I'm not as good at this whole blogging thing as I thought I was! More posts will be up shortly.

Second Round!

Second round of dying! Here it goes!

Remember that all-green piece? Well, this is what it looks like now:
I overdyed it wet with a flag fold and mixing 1 spoon of bright red, 3 spoons of basic yellow, and about one spoon of the bright yellow. It's not the prettiest piece out there, but I really like it.

Next up is the turquoise circles piece.
This one was supposed to be overdyed wet, but I got so excited about overdying that I just threw it in the bag right away. The dye is 1-2 spoons of earth blue and 3 spoons of basic blue. I double rubber-banded the circles to try and keep them intact, and it pretty much worked. I like how the circles have a few pinkish lines that snuck in there. This is definitely a boyfriend piece.

The last one I have is a newly dyed piece:
I was trying to make this a deep red, but it came out this deep fuscia color that looks pretty good. It was a wet accordion fold with one loose rubber band holding it in place. The dye consisted of about 3 spoons of basic red, and then I spilled my "drop" of basic blue and ended up putting about 2 spoons in. In the end, it was a happy accident and I love it.

Big Thunder Railroad

I completely love the colors here. It's all so pretty. Disney always takes the best pictures.

Found on the Disney Parks Twitter account.
